Unconvention-Extension

This house in Offenbach, Germany was just a conventional 1970s build, not anymore. KHBT Architects have offered their take on an extension by wrapping it around the upper floors to create that little extra family space to the otherwise mundane pitched upstairs and down.

The extension wrap is clad with timber and an extra room has been positioned on top in the northern corner to alter the shape of the roof and give it an extra dynamic. Additional supports were needed for the extension to climb on the current. The architects had to punch through the existing first and ground floor in order to bear the new floor on its own structural system.

An outside-the-box idea for an extension, that looks like it belongs rather than the bolt-on norm, probably leaks less as well.
